Mayor Meets Najaf Governor

The meeting with the Yousef  Makki  Kanawi, Governor of Najaf, with the aim of increasing cooperation in various fields, was the culmination of the visit of a delegation of senior officials of the Shiraz Metropolitan Municipality to Iraq. During this meeting, the High Representative of the Iraqi Government in Najaf announced his readiness for any cooperation with the Shiraz Municipality.

In this meeting, the Governor of Najaf, while welcoming and expressing his pleasure to host the delegation of Shiraz  introduced the city of Najaf and stated: "Najaf is a proud city with a rich historical background and a high position in religious education in the Islamic world due to the presence of the shrine of Imam Ali (AS).
The highest representative of the Iraqi Government in Najaf stated that Najaf hosts millions of pilgrims annually, which creates a suitable opportunity for the residents of Najaf to exchange experiences and views with people from different parts of the world in cultural and social fields.
The Governor of Najaf also referred to its industrial, agricultural, commercial, and tourism capacities, and, explaining that Shiraz is also a famous city in the world, he announced his readiness for any cooperation with the Shiraz Municipality and to welcome the citizens of this metropolis.
In another part of his speech, he stated that the brotherly relationship between us and the Islamic Republic of Iran has a long history, explained its importance and examples, and expressed hope that this relationship will always remain stable and lasting.
The mayor of Shiraz Metropolitan City, at the beginning of his speech, expressed his appreciation for the hospitality of the Governor of Najaf and the opportunity provided for dialogue between the officials of these two cities in the Islamic world.
Mohammad Hassan Asadi, stating that the working mission of the city administration delegation began in Najaf and will end with a visit to the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), expressed hope that the blessing of this spiritual trip and the meetings held will bring positive results for the citizens of both cities and strengthen future cooperation.
He expressed hope that with the support of the Najaf Governorate, an official relationship will be formed between the cities of Shiraz and Najaf, and that these two cities will be able to cooperate with each other in diverse and broad fields.
 
The board member of the World Metropolis Association (Metropolis) also discussed the diplomacy efforts of the Shiraz metropolis in the international arena, as well as in international organizations and networks of friendly and sister cities, and explained the importance of these memberships in promoting Shiraz's position on the global level.
