Asadi Takes Office as New Shiraz Mayor
Mr. Mohammadhassan Asadi took office as the new mayor of Shiraz during an official inauguration ceremony held on Saturday, 8 October 2022. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking provincial officials including the representative of the Supreme Leader in Fars Province, Fars Governor general, all four members of the Iranian Parliament (Consultative Assembly) representing Shiraz as well as members of the Shiraz Islamic City Council.
Mr Asadi replaced the former mayor, Seyed Ehasan Asnafi, who resigned from office 13 August 2022.
Mayors of Iranian cities are appointed by the Islamic City Council (the Local Legislature), members of which are elected by direct public vote.
Born in 1966, Mr. Asadi holds a DBA degree and has previously served as member of the Shiraz Islamic City Council, Acting mayor of Shiraz, deputy mayor of Shiraz for finance and economy and economic development and investment attraction advisor of Fars governor general.
