UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning expresses UIL solidarity with Iranian People amid Covid-19 outbreak
David Atchoarena, the director of UIL, expressed his solidarity with Iranian people in the challenging period of the novel coronavirus outbreak. His message reads:
“On behalf of the UNESCO Institute of Lifelong Learning (UIL), the coordinating organization of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC), I would like to convey heart-felt concern to you and all citizens in Shiraz following the outbreak of viral pneumonia (coronavirus) in Iran.
As Iran is one of the countries most badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, UIL deplores the extreme difficulties the city of Shiraz is facing. We fully support Iran in its fights against the disease and share your concern regarding the constraints that the imposed sanctions may constitute in this regard.
Please take note that your letter was transmitted to the Sector in charge of External Relations at UNESCO Headquarters for further follow-up.
Let me express once again our solidarity with you and the Iranian people in this challenging period.
Furthermore, I would like to pass on my best wishes and congratulations to Iranian everywhere on the occasion of Nowruz. I wish however that the New Persian Year will bring better prospects for the whole population.”
