Eskandarpour, the mayor of Shiraz, extended his condolences to the mayor of Kyoto and families of victims over Kyoto animation studio arson attack. His message reads: “I was profoundly saddened to hear the news of the devastating arson attack on Kyoto Animation Studio, which left 34 casualties and many more injured, most of whom young people with bright futures. Unfortunately, this tragic incident was also a great loss for Japan’s art community. On behalf of Shiraz citizens as well as my own, I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences, to you, the relatives of the victims and the citizens of the beautiful and historical city of Kyoto. We pray for the bereaved that they may find peace of mind and strength of heart and hope the city can soon recover from this severe trauma.”
Shiraz and has established a close friendly relationship with the City of Kyoto in the framework of Kyoto-based League of Historical Cities (LHC), which is chaired by the mayor of Kyoto. Shiraz has been a member of LHC board of directors since 2018.
