Sister cities
City diplomacy is an indispensable tool for city administrations and local governments to prosper in a global age. Establishing sister city (twinning) relationships is very fundamental for building an effective city diplomacy. Sister city agreements offer considerable opportunities for exchange of knowledge and experience and international cooperation between cities. More importantly, they can help promote inter-cultural dialog, respect for diversity, and peace. While engaging in various activities with international partners beyond the current network of its sister-and-friendship cities, Shiraz is actively trying to establish new sister city relationships with cities from across the globe and warmly welcomes sister city proposals.

International Membership
As the world is becoming more urbanized, cities take on more important roles in dealing with global challenges. International organizations can facilitate cooperation among cities in finding solutions to the numerous common problems they are facing. They also help cities connect with key public and private sector actors from other countries, develop their capacity to engage with multiple stakeholders for organizing international events and projects, and represent their interests at a transnational level. Shiraz Municipality attaches great significance to membership in international organizations, with special emphasis on gaining more visibility, assuming greater responsibility and playing a more active role in policy and decision making within the networks it has already joined.
