Mohammadhassan Asadi, Shiraz Mayor, met his counterpart from Nasiriyah, Iraq and presented the history and capacities of the Metropolitan city of Shiraz.
He said that Shiraz, as the third Iranian major religious city, had the population of 2,000,000 and was the settlement of many religious scholars, descendants of   Shiite Imams, and litterateurs and enjoyed religious, historical, cultural and scientific backgrounds.
 
He said “Shiraz has a 6500-year background and has been the political capital city of four dynasties, and houses numerous historical and tangible heritages dating back to those eras. Different features of Shiraz attract millions of tourists in Nowruz.” 
 
“As a member of Metropolis board of directors,” he added, “Shiraz has been accredited as the Asian Mayors' Forum Capital of Environment in 2024. Shiraz has a practical know-how knowledge in the urban waste management and enjoys a high capacity in this domain, we are open to the proposal of Nasiriyah to use the technology deployed by the city of Shiraz.”
Ali Abdul Sattar Abdulghani, Mayor of Naseriyah, expressed his pleasure to visit Shiraz and said “Naseriyah is a historical city and the birthplace of Abraham (PBUH).”
 
He then added “Naseriyah is located in Dhi Qar Province and has the population of 1,000,000.”
 
He proposed that Shiraz and Naseriyah enter into the twin-city relationship. He expressed his willingness to use the experiences of Shiraz in the green space domain and to use waste management technology of Shiraz.
